• Cursor in the upper right
  • cable problem (most likely)
  • system is powered off

• Cursor in the upper left
  • varied off (most likely)
  • session has gone to a status of FAILED
  • conflict with another printer or terminal that is setup on the same address
  • system is currently doing an IPL (power up/down)
  • For Priam workstations only: a power outage occurred and the terminal lost it's settings
  • the controller line is varied off (wrkcfgsts *lin)

• Cursor bounces between left and right side
  • conflict with another active terminal or printer (most likely)
  • intermittent cable signal
  • cable signal is echoing through an open line

• Terminal restarts regularly
  • cable problem (most likely)
  • logic board failure (least likely)

• Terminal won't hold settings after power loss
  • logic board is bad (most likely) - replace terminal

• Terminal beeps when typing
  • the record button is active and the maximum number of recorded keys has been reached. Press the record key (this will turn off the record activity) to use the workstation again.

• Screen is completely blank with no cursor
  • Check the power to the monitor.
    • is the monitor turned on?
    • is the monitor power cable connected?
    • is the outlet to the monitor working?
    • is the cable from the monitor to the terminal connected

How to reset a terminal or PC not physically connected to a printer

1. sign off the terminal
2. turn the terminal off
3. turn the terminal on
4. If the screen goes to a sign-on your done. If the screen doesn't go to a sign-on check the location of the cursor (see above)

How to Reset a Printer connected to a PC or Terminal (except for I-O Workstations)

1. turn the printer off
2. turn the terminal off (or session off)
3. turn the printer on
4. turn the terminal on (or activate the session)
5. test the printer

How to Reset a Printer connected to an I-O Terminal

1. turn the printer off
2. turn the terminal off
3. turn the terminal on
4. turn the printer on
5. test the printer
