System Disk Mirroring

Notes

  • Disk mirroring entails 2 separate systems working within the server
    • In disk mirroring a complete duplicate of the drives is created.
    • Four or more drives work as two separate systems.
    • If a single drive fails disk mirroring is suspended but the system continues to work normally
  • Raid requires disk striping
    • Raid requires 5 or more disks and the data is striped between each drive. Each drive then contains the information of 2/5 of the system data.
    • If a single drive fails RAID fails but the system continues to work
