A service pack PTF is
required for usage of System i for Windows on some Windows operations
systems. Here are ways that you can acquire the latest service pack:
- Our System
i Service Packs web page. The table for System i for Windows has
the link to the latest service pack. Clicking on the service pack
PTF number takes you to the FTP site, where the self-extracting EXE
file contains a set of install image files used to install the
service pack on a PC.
- Use SNDPTFORD to order the service pack PTF for
product 5722-XE1 and install it on your iSeries; then install it on
your PC from the iSeries. (Since the service pack PTFs exceed the
size limit to be sent electronically, you can receive the PTF on
media by changing SNDPTFORD's "Delivery Method" (DELIVERY) parameter
to *ANY. The parameter defaults to *LINKONLY.)
- Use Internet PTF Delivery (iPTF). This PTF would
also install on your iSeries. To find out about this service and the
requirements, go to
http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/i/ and select "Fixes"
underneath the "Popular Links" header.

Starting with Windows XP
SP2, Windows Firewall is enabled by default. There are two Software
Knowledge Base documents with information on enabling System i for
Windows with firewall products:
-
System i and Microsoft Windows Firewall: Making It
Work
This document provides one solution that will get System i for
Windows functions working through Windows Firewall. Specifically, it
show Administrators how to enable the three components that need to
accept incoming requests to work: Incoming Remote Command,
Operations Console, and Management Central.
-
System i for Windows and PC Firewall Products
This document contains information that is useful for PCs running
Windows Firewall or other firewall programs. It provides more detail
for advanced users who may want to understand the different ways to
enable System i for Windows functions through firewall programs. The
document in "1" above only includes configuring application
exceptions through Windows Firewall, and deals only with firewall
products that block incoming connections. This document includes
configuring port exceptions as well. It also includes information
useful when running a firewall program that blocks outgoing
connections.
