Recovery After Power Outages

 

STEP 1 - Power on system

  • Press the white power button.  The system will come on.
  • After the system console goes to a signon screen wait an additional 5 minutes to let the operating system finish loading.
  • After the five minutes finish check and see if you can connect via pc. 
    • If you can connect via pc or thin client skip to step 3
    • If you cannot connect via pc or thin client continue to step 2.

STEP 2 - PC Connection problems after Power on

After power on you can use the console to finish recovery.

You only need to do this step if ALL pc's and/or Thin clients are not able to connect.

External things to check 1st

  • Is the modem or router on?
  • Is the hub on?
  • Is the UPS on?
    • if not press the power button
    • if UPS won't turn on check the circuit breaker
  • Is the system on?
    • Y = what is working
    • N = check the LED light on the front panel
      • if no LED light check the UPS
      • if LED says '01 BN' press the white power button
      • if LED is changing numbers wait for IPL to finish (15-45 minutes)
      • if LED is stuck on a number and the amber attention light is flashing give the number to IBS Corporation

Check TCP

  • Does any single PC or Ethernet workstation connect to the server?
    • Y = all workstations are ready
    • N = go to the console
  • Is the console working?
    • N = check the front panel LED and call IBS
    • Y = sign on and go to a command line
  • Check for system messages
    • Shift + Systems Attention then type a '6' on the dotted line and ENTER
    • review the messages for anything requiring a response
    • call IBS
  • Check the Ethernet line
    • type 'wrkcfgsts *lin' then ENTER (work with configuration status / lines)

  • End and restart TCP
    • ENDTCP
    • STRTCP
    • STRHOSTSVR *ALL
    • The error message 'unable to communicate using IPX indicates that the last command has completed

      You will always receive this message because you do not use IPX networking communications

Step 3 - Check the reports

The following morning you need to check your pre-invoice margin report for a 1 page ticket report.
