What is Client Access Express?
Client Access Express is the latest offering in
the
Client Access family of products. It offers a powerful set of
client/server capabilities for connecting PCs to AS/400 systems.
Client Access Express enables end users and application programmers
to leverage business information, applications, and resources across
an enterprise by extending the resources of the AS/400 to the PC
desktop. Integrated graphical user interface (GUI) features deliver
increased productivity for end users who access resources on AS/400
systems.
Compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, and
Windows NT operating systems, Express first became available at
V4R4. It is similar to its predecessor - Client Access for Windows
95/NT - though there are some distinct differences between the two.
Client Access Express:
- Is a 32-bit, TCP/IP-only client.
- Features the addition of Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL).
- Provides a streamlined installation
which also gives administrators more flexibility and control.
- Utilizes file and print serving
capabilities native to AS/400 Support for Windows Network
Neighborhood (AS/400 NetServer) - V4R2 and beyond. This
allows Express to eliminate the need for background deamons and
tasks necessary in the Client Access for Windows 95/NT client.
- Transfer data between the PC client and
AS/400 host using Data Transfer.
- Take advantage of terminal emulation and
printer emulation using PC5250.
- Manage your AS/400 system by using the
graphical user interface of AS/400 Operations Navigator.
- Use the ODBC interface to work with
your AS/400 databases.
- Utilize application development resources
such as code sample programs, header files, library files, and
documentation available with the Express Toolkit.
